Surface Plasmon Excitation in Two Types of Curved Waveguides in Otto-configuration

In this paper, the surface plasmon excitation in curved dielectric waveguides with a gold semi-microring is investigated. The gold semi-microring is positioned at the outside or/and the inside of the curved waveguide. By launching the light into the input waveguide, the curved waveguide can be regarded as the Otto-configuration for surface plasmon excitation. By changing the width of curved waveguide, the surface plasmon excitation in the two structures is analyzed by using the finite-difference time-domain method. The results show that for the outer semi-microring structure, due to more waveguide loss, the surface plasmon can be significantly excited than in the inner semi-microring structure.
