Investigate Electronic States and Magnetic Properties of C84 Molecules Embedded Si(111) Substrate

We studied the surface electronic states of carbon 84 molecules embedded Si(111) substrate using Ultra High Vacuum Scanning Tunneling Microscope (UHV-STM). The band gap energy of C84 embedded Si(111) substrate is around 3.8±0.5eV. Furthermore, we investigated surface magnetic properties by magnetic force microscope (MFM) and Magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE). Our result shows C84 cluster has Ferromagnetic domains. Our results indicate that C84 molecules embedded Si(111) substrate could serve as a motivator for further studies on electrical devices and applications.
