Granular Flow of 2D Silo in the Intermittent Flow Regime.

We studied granular flow of mono-dispersed metal spheres through a two-dimensional silo with a small orifice in the clogging regime. When the orifice oscillates perpendicular to the flow direction, intermittent flow can be sustained in which the average flow rate Qd(a,f) of orifice size d, depends on the oscillation amplitude a and the oscillation frequency f. At small d, it was found that Qd(a,f) can be collapsed in terms of Qd(af). In other words, the flow rate depends only on the characteristic oscillation speed of the orifice.
